January 28, 2013

The community in Bessbrook is shocked and saddened by the tragic death of a young woman in the village pond on Thursday evening.   Sheena Robb was out for an evening walk by the pond when she fell into the water.  A group of young people discovered the woman shortly after 6.00pm and contacted emergency services who performed CPR at the scene. Despite the attempts by paramedics to revive her, the mother of two later died.

Mrs Robb lived opposite the pond and was a well-known and popular neighbour and friend to many.

Her family is deeply involved in Shane O’ Neill’s GFC, Camlough where she was a prominent member and coached the underage girls’ squad.  The club expressed its shock and sadness at the tragedy and extended  heartfelt sympathy to her entire family circle.

Local political representatives also echoed the sentiments of the community, expressing their deep sympathy and sadness at such a tragic event.

SDLP Assembly Member for Newry and Armagh, Dominic Bradley MLA, said he was deeply saddened at the news.

“The community is shocked at this very sad news and my thoughts and the thoughts and prayers of the whole community are with the family at this tragic time.

“I know that local people will rally round the family and do all in their power to help them cope at this very difficult time,” he said.

Sinn Fein Councillor Pat Mc Ginn, who is a friend of the deceased woman’s family, said that the community were shocked and stunned at the tragic news, and that the thoughts and prayers of all were with the grieving family.

Requiem Mass for Sheena Robb was held yesterday (Sunday) in the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, Bessbrook, with burial following in the adjoining cemetery.  She is survived by her husband Johnny, daughter Lia, son Ethan, siblings Angela, Michelle, Sharon and Jamie, and extended family circle.
