Councillor condemns Cullyhanna shooting incident

February 25, 2013

Sinn Fein councillor, Coleman Burns has condemned a shooting incident which took place in the Cherry Grove area of Cullyhanna last Tuesday evening, 19th February.  Several shots were fired near a house in the area, but thankfully no-one was injured and no damage was caused to the house.

“The housing estate where this incident took place is full of young children and the people of Cullyhanna do not want anything like this happening around their village” said Councillor Burns.

“This incident comes a week after the new Community Centre opened in Cullyhanna to facilitate people from the area. This was a good news story and this current news is the last thing people want at their doors.”

Police have launched an appeal for information regarding the incident which happened shortly after 11pm on the evening in question.

A dark coloured Volkswagen Golf was later found alight in the Slatequarry Road area. It is believed that this car could be linked to the shooting incident.

Anyone with any information about this is asked to contact CID in Ardmore Police Station on 0845 600 8000.
