Child’s car seat clue in hunt for Garda killers

March 4, 2013

A child’s car seat has become a key focus in the hunt for the killers of Garda Adrian Donohue who was shot dead during a robbery at the Lordship Credit Union outside Dundalk on January 25.

Investigating Gardai have revealed that the green and black Cosatto car seat (pictured) was in the dark blue Volkswagen Passat used in the robbery when it was stolen a few days earlier but had disappeared when the car was found burnt out at Fews Forest outside Newtownhamilton.

A red and black mallet-style hammer (pictured), normally used in the motor trade, was recovered at the scene and detectives are keen to speak to anyone who may have knowledge of either of these two items.

Meanwhile the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch officers have renewed their appeal for information about the movements of the getaway car used by the Garda’s killers.

Detectives are interested in the movements of the Passat car in and around Newtownhamilton on the night of Friday 25 January, and in particular: the Chalybeate Road junction with Cortamlat Road; Cortamlat Road junction with Blayney Road; Keady Road junction with Chalybeate Road and Tullygeasy Road junction with Keady Road.

They are interested in speaking to anyone who saw a dark blue Volkswagen Passat in the area on the Friday night of 25 January after 9.30 pm, who saw any other vehicles in the area around this time, who observed fire, smoke or burning vehicles in the area or anyone who can assist in any way.

A substantial reward is being offered for information which is of assistance to the investigation.
