10th Anniversary of Crooked Lake Triathlon launched

March 11, 2013

As part of the 2013 Year of the Gathering and 10th Anniversary of the successful Crooked Lake Triathlon in Camlough, Newry and Mourne District Council invited its partners in County Clare, the Mayor, Fews Councillors and members of the Crooked Lake Triathlon to a special photocall at Camlough Lake last Friday.

Mayor John McArdle said he was delighted to attend the photocall on the shores of Camlough Lake and extended his sincere congratulations to the Crooked Lake Triathlon Committee for developing the annual triathlon into a major event within the District and attracting many more competitors throughout Ireland.

He also revealed that the Council will facilitate the County Clare visitors who will be participating in the 10th Anniversary of the Crooked Lake Triathlon this summer at a “Gathering Breakfast” reception to be held in South Armagh on the morning of the triathlon event.

Catherine Murphy, speaking on behalf of the organising committee of the Crooked Lake Triathlon welcomed the visitors from Clare and said that the hosting of the “Gathering Breakfast” by the Newry and Mourne and Clare Twinning Committee would add to the 10th Anniversary celebration of the highly popular sporting event.

“The Crooked Lake Triathlon, which is now a recognised national triathlon, has attracted thousands of people from all over Ireland over the last 10 years, and has become one of the most popular races in the Triathlon Ireland Calendar” said Catherine.

“It is also a truly community based event.  We have received so much support from local businesses, sporting clubs, groups and individual volunteers.

“This is our third year of sponsorship from First Derivatives.  We are also very grateful to Newry and Mourne Council who have always shown us great support and encouragement.”

Catherine concluded by reminding all those with an interest in participating in the Triathlon that registration for the race opens on April 1st at 8.30am.
