DIRTY DUSTING – The Show That Really Cleans Up!

April 29, 2013

Doing it for the girls – or we should say grannies – at Newry City Hall, are actresses Rozlyn Sheridan, Edel Sheridan and Teresa McBride.  The Sheridan Stage School Adult players are delighted to bring to Newry this rip roaring comedy which is guaranteed to tickle the funny bone!

Take a bullying supervisor, three office cleaners over sixty, the threat of the sack, and you have the makings of a moving play about ageism. Add a telephone call that proves to be a wrong number – actually for a telephone chat line. Factor in the sense of humour of writers Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood and it suddenly becomes a hilarious comedy.

Warned in a letter from their employers that they are about to lose their jobs and subject to threats and intimidation by Dave, their supervisor, Elsie (Rozlyn Sheridan), Olive (Edel Sheridan) and Gladys (Teresa McBride), prompted by the wrong number, decide to spend their last weekend at work running an adult chat line from their employer’s office.

There is a special guest appearance from the one and only Charlie Smyth who plays Bridget and comes to help the other cleaners as a stand in Telephone Belle.  Christopher Carr who recently played John Proctor in the Stage Schools recent production of “The Crucible” will play the nasty supervisor!

Dirty Dusting premiered in England in 2003 and hasn’t stopped since. It has toured the world, including a six week sell out tour in Ireland where Twink played one of the “Telephone Belles”.  This is the first time that it has been performed in Northern Ireland!

Dirty Dusting runs from Wednesday 8 May to Friday 10 May at 8pm sharp.  Tickets are £6.00 and are available from Carlin Records.  Get your dusters at the ready for a night of fun and laughter!
