Crossmaglen florist hopes to bloom at Chelsea

May 20, 2013

Hopes are riding high for young Crossmaglen florist, Siobhan Hughes, who is set to impress the judges at the Chelsea Flower Show today (Tuesday).  The talented florist is no stranger to the prestigious competition having scooped the Bronze Medal in the 2012 Young Florist of the Year category last year.

This year Siobhan will compete for the title of Junior Florist of the Year, while her colleague at George Preston Florists in Newry, Karen Sherwin, has her sights set on the Florist of the year title.

Both girls sailed through qualifying heats in Greenmount, Co.Antrim, and now face stiff competition in the centenary year of the Chelsea Flower Show to create a display fitting for a previous Chelsea winner with the theme of a never ending circle.

The pair have been working hard on designing their displays and props with Siobhan flying over on Sunday to set up her presentation ahead of being judged today.

The local lady certainly has the support of her local community and sponsors along with family and friends who are thrilled she has made it into the competition for a second time.  With such strong support and natural talent and creativity, Siobhan is sure to come up smelling of roses again at Chelsea.

The Chelsea Flower Show runs from May 21st to May 25th.
