New Play by the McArdle Twins

June 10, 2013

The McArdle Twins, after almost 10 years of writing a play together, have written a new play for the week-long festival, Duffys All Over, in Drumhowan, Co. Monaghan.  As part of the Gathering 2013, the play entitled ‘Father of all the Duffys?’ tells the tale of the king of the Duffys in old Ireland.  There were several men called Dubhthach in ancient Ireland from whom the Duffys might have originated – a saint, a poet, a bishop.

In the play John and Tommy McArdle have plumped for a vicious, scheming warrior in Ulster in Cuchulainn’s time and a story that was carefully kept out of all children’s books – a tale full of murder and mayhem, head-butting contests, heads rolling over the stage, thought that maybe the Duffys shouldn’t be called Duffy at all!  The play is full of music, dance and spectacle, comedy to delight and tragedy to elevate – all from a cast of forty actors, musicians and dancers.  This is a one-off show you must come and see or forever listen to the tales of those who will boast that they were there on the historic night of the Duffys in the June of the Gathering.

The play shows in the Iontas Centre Castleblayney on Saturday 29th June at 8.30 pm.  For more information on this and all the other events during the Duffys All Over festival please look at or on Facebook (Duffys all over).
