“Beauty with a purpose” – local girl’s success in Miss Northern Ireland

July 1, 2013

Local girl Emily Shields from Forkhill, who was one of 25 Finalists in the recently held 2013 Miss Northern Ireland Contest is proud to have won the coveted award of ‘Beauty with a Purpose’. Emily received her award from former Miss Northern Ireland and TV presenter, Zoe Salmon, for the tireless Charity work she has carried out since she was a young child.  Along with her award, Emily also became the new face of the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice Foundation campaigns for 2013/14.

Emily is well known throughout the local area as a seasoned singer and performer who has captured audiences in many County and All-Ireland Scór competitions, and with several strings to her bow, the talented teenager has always used her talents to raise funds for charitable causes.

The stunning songstress recorded the famous classical hymn ‘Pie Jesu’ last year for a school charity CD and featured in the beautiful accompanying video on YouTube.  2012 also saw her record a second CD, ‘Feels like Home’ to raise funds for the St Paul’s High School, Bessbrook Foreign Project Schemes in Kenya and Romania.

Back in 2004, Emily recorded a charity CD, ’Christmas in Ireland’ which raised substantial funds for Newry Hospice who had cared for her own Grandmother during her terminal illness.

No stranger to the stage or the camera, the charitable teenager has appeared on many TV programmes including ‘TG4 Feis and Blood’ talent show and TG4’s Scor Encore as well as numerous Radio appearances.

Despite her experience in pageants throughout Ireland, the Miss Northern Ireland competition was a first for Emily who was also the youngest competitor ever.  She is delighted to have scooped such a worthy award and hopes to continue her fund raising efforts using her diverse capabilities.

Next up for Emily though is an upcoming hip hop video to the song ‘Anchor’ which was written by songwriters Dave Molloy and Paul McDonald and recorded at the Cellar Club Studio.  The video, which will soon be shot by Jim Crone Films also features the South African Rapper, MC Ree.

We wish Emily every success in her future singing and beauty career.
