From lead singer to solo artist – Pete Keighery returns to local music scene

July 29, 2013

Pete Keighery is one of the most exciting up and coming singer/songwriter talents to have graced the local music scene in recent years.

The Newry man has been showcasing his original music and vocal talent locally for quite a while, having begun his musical journey supporting local bands with his own solo material from 2009.  Not content with being the support act, Pete started his own band, The Revelry, in 2011. The four piece group gathered quite a following throughout 2012, with regular gigs in local nightspots and festivals, including a slot in last year’s Tanglewood line-up.

Pete also recorded an EP with the band to much applause, particularly with regards to Pete’s vocal, lyrical and melodic qualities.  With such strong singing and songwriting abilities evident throughout the band’s tenure, it was inevitable that Pete would once again break out on his own to pursue a solo career.

True to the lyrics of one of his original songs, “from the ashes a phoenix rises”, Pete is firmly back in the solo saddle and has returned to the studio to record new solo material.  Just this month he recorded four original tracks at the renowned Cloud 9 Studios in Belfast. Armed with songs that reach audiences of all ages, Pete has burst back onto the scene as a solo artist with a vocal quality rarely heard among local artists.

This homegrown talent wears his musical influences on his sleeve, citing Noel Gallagher, Richard Ashcroft and John Lennon (to name a few) as his main influences. With lyrics about hope, hardship, love, happiness and escapism, its easy to see how his songs connect so easily with listeners.

As he continues to write and record new material, Pete hopes to perform his back catalogue of original tracks as well as his new offerings at live music venues and festivals in the coming months.

Audiences have already enjoyed his recent live performances promoting his original solo material at Amplified Bar, as well as at last weekend’s EariWig Festival and Tanglewood promo gigs in Grounded Coffee Bar.

Pete will be playing Tanglewood 2013 at Narrow Water Castle on Sunday 4th August in the Gramophone Tent at 12.40pm and has more gigs lined up throughout Newry and Warrenpoint, so try and catch a performance by this talented young singer/songwriter as you certainly won’t be disappointed.
