St Oliver Plunkett Youth Club Summer Scheme 2013

August 5, 2013

This year we held a Junior Summer scheme over 3 weeks from the start of July and each week was very successful.  All the children enjoyed taking part in numerous activites in the club such as cookery, arts and crafts, team games,  football, badminton, pool, and  a playstation FIFA tournament.   We went on 6 trips in total including GR8 in Blayney, Cheeky Monkeys in Newry, Newry Cinema, Tayto Park in Ashbourne, Slieve Gullion and the Funhouse, Newry.  Over 100 young children aged 6-12 took part in the scheme.  They also got to enjoy our newly opened Olly’s Youth Café during lunch where we served pizza, sandwiches, drinks and treats.

On the final day of the third week we held a fun day where Cross Castles were very generous and kindly donated their amazing obstactle course and slide.  All the kids enjoyed a fashion show where they showed off many of the items which they had made during the weeks.  Tthe day ended with a BBQ where we had delicious burgers and hotdogs from Crosby Butchers.

We would like to thank the great staff who showed great enthusiasm and fun with the kids who attended the scheme.  Also a massive thank you to the many young peeople who volunteered for the 3 weeks.

Thanks very much to our wonderful parents for their continued support of the club and we hope to see you all when we resume club nights in September.

During the fourth week of July we held a Senior Summer scheme which involved joining up Culloville Youth Club, Silverbridge Youth Club, Dorsey Youth Club and our own club.   Each evening the group  went on various activies including canoeing, abseiling, gorge waliking, teambuilding games and archery.  All these activities took place within our own local beautiful area of Camlough lake and Slieve Gullion.  We would like to give our appreciation to Mark Lambert and Michelle Chambers from Gullion Adventures for their excellent provision.
