“Raglan” road leads back to Market Place Theatre

September 16, 2013

Local group Raglan – one of the most exciting new folk / traditional bands to emerge in the last decade,  are returning to a special venue this Saturday for an intimate concert featuring their unique sound and inspiring vocals.

The Market Place Theatre Armagh is a venue close to the heart of the group after they promised to return with their own show following a rapturous reception from the audience back in 2011 during the band’s support stint in “The Legend of Luke Kelly” show.  True to their word, Raglan returned there for the hugely successful launch of their debut album last year and are set to wow audiences once again this Saturday 21st September.

The four piece band, who have been friends for many years, have taken a unique angle on Traditional Irish Folk music by creating a fusion between folk and classical.  The classical element is supplied by Joanna Doran from Cullyhanna, who is academically trained in classical music.  Combined with the instrumentals and vocals of Stephen McNulty (singer /songwriter), Petey Doran (bodhran and vocals) and Terry Conlon (piano accordion /vocals), this new approach to Irish folk makes for very soft listening and great entertainment.

All members are individual musicians who have previously played locally throughout Ireland, as well as throughout Europe and the US.  Last year the band launched their debut album entitled “A New Dawn” which features a stunning mix of traditional tunes, ballads and new compilations to create a truly fresh and entertaining listening experience.

The Market Place Theatre concert takes place on Saturday 21st September at 8pm. Tickets are £15 and are available from the Market Place Theatre Box Office on 028 3752 1821/
