Welcome return of HMV to Newry

October 14, 2013

The welcome return of HMV to Ireland continues, with the opening of its store in Newry on Friday October 25th.  The store will be located in the old HMV premises at the Quays Shopping Centre in the town.

Following Hilco’s acquisition of HMV, the Newry store represents the fifth standalone HMV store to open in Ireland since returning to the Irish high street last month, joining branches at Henry Street, Dundrum Town centre, Liffey Valley in Dublin and at the Crescent Shopping Centre in Limerick.

As well as delighting local fans of music, film and games, the opening of the store in Newry will also create 20 jobs.

In addition to providing all entertainment needs, HMV in Newry will be hosting regular live in-store performances by established and up-and-coming acts.  The performances further highlight HMV’s commitment to being a major supporter of live music in Ireland, and follows in-store appearances by The Strypes, John Newman, Biffy Clyro, Jerry Fish, Cathy Davey and Hidden Highways in the past month.

Larry Howard, CEO of Hilco Capital Ireland: “The public reaction to the return of HMV to Ireland has been overwhelming, and we’re delighted to be expanding our presence in the Irish market with the opening of the Newry store.”
