Shooting at house ‘reckless and dangerous’

November 25, 2013

Police are investigating an incident on the Newry Road, Crossmaglen in which a number of shots were fired at a private house.

Sometime between 8pm on Wednesday 20th November and 9.30am the following morning, the detached property was targeted.  Several live rounds were fired, shattering windows and damaging a door.  The house was unoccupied at the time.

Local Councillor Terry Hearty has described the attack as “reckless and dangerous”.

“These shots damaged the windows and walls of a house. Thankfully the property was unoccupied at the time and nobody was physically injured.  This is a shocking incident which could have had a much more sinister outcome had the property been occupied at the time,” he said.

“I visited the family and they are naturally shocked at being intimidated in this way.  Actions like this are unacceptable and I am glad that nobody was hurt in this attack.”

Mr Hearty says anyone with information on the incident should contact police.

It’s believed a police examination of the property was carried out although it is not clear if the results will yield any further information on who may have been responsible.
