Early action for County panelists

December 2, 2013

There will be early action for the newly formed County panels of Armagh, Down, Derry and Louth as Crossmaglen Rangers and Armagh County Board announced the revival of the O’Fiaich Cup with a full list of fixtures for the Round –Robin tournament. Respective managers Paul Grimley, James McCartan, Aidan O’Rourke and Brian McIvor will no doubt use the O’Fiaich Cup to shape their teams for the January McKenna Cup and the tough League campaigns to follow.

The competition was originally introduced to bring Senior County Football back to Crossmaglen at a time when the club’s ground was still under occupation. It is of course named after the late Cardinal Tomas O’Fiaich, a native of the area.

The tournament will be held between the 5th and 15th December with fixtures being played in both Crossmaglen and the Athletic Grounds, Armagh. The County Board was happy to make its facilities available so that matches can be played midweek under floodlights.

However, Crossmaglen will stage a double header on Sunday 8th December and the final will also be played in Crossmaglen on Sunday 15th December.
