Festive Ceol and Craic in Mullaghbawn

December 9, 2013

Over 100 young musicians from all over south Armagh will be playing and singing at the Traditional Arts Partnership (TAP) Christmas Concert this Thursday in Aras an Phobail (Community Hall). Jigs, reels, songs and carols will be the order of the day. Admission is free and everybody is welcome.

TAP Secretary Siobhán Downey says “This is a chance for families to come along and listen to the progress their young musicians have made… and for the youngsters to appreciate just how much joy they can share with the audience and the pride their families have for them. We would like to invite the wider community as well, so do come along and bring the whole family. You will hardly see a more heart-warming sight this Christmas.”

It has been quite a year for the TAP and our musicians have represented our area at Junior and Senior Scór, Newry Feis, and the Armagh, Ulster and All-Ireland Fleadhanna. They have also played at community events and concerts. 10 of our young musicians also performed in The Titanic Drums as part of the opening ceremony for the Police and Fire Games in Belfast during the summer.TAP are keen for our young people build their confidence by playing in public so if anybody would like a group of musicians to play at an event they should contact Siobhan Downey. TAP also have some adult classes now, so if there is anybody reading this who always wanted to learn to play, but never did, now would be the perfect time to take the plunge. Classes recommence on Thursday 16th January and new pupils are always welcome.

Chair Liam O’Sullivan added “We would also like to say a sincere thank you to all our fantastic team – the tutors, supervisors, parents and most importantly the musicians themselves – for all their support in helping to build something really special for the people of this area. We are just as proud of a 6-year old playing ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’ as we are of those who are achieving national and International success. A special thank you too, to all at St. Mary’s PS for their generosity and continued support. We also look forward to continuing and building our strong partnership with Ring of Gullion Comhaltas and wish them every success for the New Year.
