Camlough boxer triumphs over neighbour in close contest

January 13, 2014

Camlough ABC boxing club celebrated excellent success at the weekend when club member Ferghus Quinn defeated the Irish under 18 champion, Conor Wallace, from the Sacred Heart Boxing Club in Newry.

This is the fourth time the pair have met this year and Ferghus has emerged victorious in three of the matches.  This match proved to be a great contest between the two, and no doubt was difficult for Wallace to lose out, particularly when both clubs are situated so close.

The bout was part of the All-Ireland Youths Championships, held in the National Stadium in Dublin.  Ferghus is now scheduled to box this coming weekend in Dublin for a place in the All-Ireland final, where Camlough ABC coaches Martin McCusker and Martin Mulholland are confident that he can go all the way.

Ferghus has been training hard this last few weeks for these championships, running the hills of south Armagh as part of his preparation. He will come up against John G Lawrence, from the Eagle Club, and hopefully book that final place in Dublin – a move that could open a lot of doors for this game boxer from Belleek.
