Extension begins in Crossmaglen Community Centre

January 20, 2014

Newry and Mourne District Council has been successful in gaining funding for an  Extension to Crossmaglen Community Centre. It is being funded by SOAR through the Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme (The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe investing in rural areas and Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) with support from Newry and Mourne District Council.

The Community Centre extension will include a disabled lift a multi purpose/ training room and an internet suite. Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council Cllr M Ruane turned the sod for this project along with Slieve Gullion Area Councillors and SOAR.

The Mayor stated that this project was brought about by years of lobbying by the community of Crossmaglen and local councillors and it is his great pleasure to finally see work commencing on the Community Centre site. Construction work will be carried out by Kelly, McEvoy and Brown Construction.  The project is due to be complete in August 2014.

As a result of the commencement of the works council staff who are normally based at the community centre will now be based on the first floor of O’Fiaich House. The Citizens Advice Bureau will also take place here every Monday from 9.30am-11.00am. For further information contact Julie Mc Cann on 02830861949.
