Take to the floor with Newry’s new dance classes

January 20, 2014

Shall We Dance Newry has announced it will hold new beginners social dance classes for all those who want to learn how to dance and get in shape for 2014.

Shall We Dance? Newry was launched in 2012 by local dancing supremos Gerald and Patricia Malone who have already run several very successful classes in the area.

The couple, who have been dancing for over 25 years competitively and socially, have won Ballroom and Latin American dancing competitions throughout the UK and Ireland and boast All-Ireland honours amongst their impressive array.

Dancing is a great way to stay in shape and enjoy yourself but Gerald insists it is also a fantastic way to make new friends.

“We started dancing nearly 25 years ago and since then we have met so many amazing people and have forged life-long friendships with people from across the country,” he said.  “A lot of people want to live a healthier lifestyle, learn to dance and make new friends. Our class will let you do all three and the most important thing is to enjoy yourself.”

Speaking about the success of his previous classes, he added: “The couples have enjoyed themselves tremendously. Some were there to learn the ‘first dance’ before they get married, others were there to enjoy the social element but all just really enjoyed themselves.”

The Shall We Dance? Newry beginners social dancing class starts in St. James’s Hall, Mullaghbrack, Markethill on Tuesday 4th February from 7:30-8 30pm, teaching the Slow Waltz, Quickstep, and Swing Jive and it costs just £6 per person per class.

They will also be holding an Improvers Class from 9-10pm on the same night (for pupils who have already participated in their beginners class and wish to improve and learn more). The price for this is also £6 per person per class.

Gerald and Patricia have also launched a new beginners class commencing in Thee1 Salon in Warrenpoint on Wednesday 5th February at 6:30pm – 7:30pm, teaching beginners Slow Waltz and Quickstep; and followed by beginners Jive and Salsa from 7:45 and 8:45pm.

Spaces for the dance classes are limited so it is advised you register your interest early to avoid disappointment.
