Outstanding award for Park Butchers apprentice

March 10, 2014

PPark Butchers in Newtownhamilton is proving itself to be an award winning butcher’s once again, with their in-store butchery apprentice, Christopher Hoey, picking up the prestigious title of UK Outstanding Meat Learner of the Year. The Cullyhanna student has worked in Park Butchers for the last year and a half while studying for his Diploma in Proficiency in Meat and Poultry with the School of Hospitality and Tourism at Southern Regional College in Newry.

According to his tutors at SRC, Christopher is a very committed student who has surpassed his own expectations and demonstrates a great understanding and aptitude in all areas of the course.

Proprietor of Park Butchers, Graham Park also praised Christopher’s efforts, and has rewarded his skill and commitment with a full time role within the business while he finishes the last few years of his apprenticeship.

The Farm Quality Assured butcher told us he was delighted to offer Christopher full time employment after guiding him throughout his apprenticeship and watching him progress and hone his skills over the last 18 months.  Graham himself is no stranger to accolades,  having recently received certification of his membership of the prestigious Institute of Meat in recognition of his services to butchery.

Having served the people of Newtownhamilton for 20 years, Graham has seen his business go from strength to strength and credits that success to the quality of his locally sourced produce, as well as highly qualified butchery staff, including Head Butcher, Warren Montgomery, whose top class butchery expertise and management skills have played a key part in the thriving business.

Graham also believes that knowing most of his customers personally and being local to the area have all helped to build a solid customer base at Park’s.

“I grew up with many of the customers here and, as a part time Fireman, I know most of the local people.  I think it’s very important that people know and trust their local butcher,” says Graham.

“All our Farm Quality Assured meat comes from one supplier and can be traced back to within a 5 mile radius of Newtownhamilton so customers can be assured they are getting the best quality product here.  We advertise in the shop where the animals are slaughtered and our traceability assurance so customers know exactly where their meat is coming from.”

With yet another award winning staff member on the premises, Park Butchers continues to cement its reputation as a top quality local butcher and Newtownhamilton customers hope to enjoy the variety of Farm Quality Assured meat products and second-to-none catering services for many years to come.
