Haughey saddened by fishing accident

Rural Armagh SDLP Councillor Sharon Haughey-Grimley has expressed her sadness at the death of a local Markethill man following a fishing accident.

David Warnock was one of a six-man group of anglers whose boat capsized during a freak squall while on a fishing trip to Lough Ree in the Irish midlands last Thursday.

He was recovered from the water and rushed to University Hospital in Galway but died in intensive care.  The tragedy has left a second man missing and a third fighting for his life.

Expressing her condolences to Mr Warnock’s family, Cllr Haughey-Grimley said, “My thoughts and prayers are with David’s family and loved ones at this terrible time.

“It is such a terrible tragedy for a young father to lose his life like this. What should have been an enjoyable fishing break has turned out to be a worst nightmare.

“My thoughts are also very much with the family of the missing man and I join in the prayers that the search will be successful.  I also wish the injured man a full recovery from this horrific accident.

“It’s always terribly sad when someone loses their life doing something that they love.  The entire angling community and local people are just stunned and deeply saddened by this news.”
