New Darts League being formed

A new dart league is set to start in the Newry area for the 2014-15 season. The new league will be played on a Friday night with its main objective to improve the standard and competitiveness of darts in the area. The new league will be run under the guidance of a clear and transparent organisational committee selected by the teams who will be the founder members of the league.

A number of informal meetings have already taken place, with the main suggestions being 1- that the new league should consist of teams of six a side and 2- a playing format of the best of five legs be adopted 3-There will be at least one cup competition 4- as well as singles and pairs competitions.

Although plans are still at a very early stage, a number of teams have already indicated their interest in participating in the new league which has established financial backing in terms of substantial sponsorship to get it on its feet

A meeting for all interested parties i.e. teams or individuals will be held in the Hunter Moore Hall, Belfast Road, Newry, on Wednesday 14th May at 8pm. At this inaugural meeting all aspects of the league formation will be discussed including the setting up of a league constitution as well as guidelines to ensure the smooth running of the league to the satisfaction of the members.

The current Destination Newry & Mourne sponsored Dart League is one of the biggest and long established in the country with upwards on 60 teams playing in 5 different leagues every Friday night.
