Seanín nominated for Spirit of NI award

May 12, 2014

The determined battle of a young Belleek woman against a rare and degenerative disease has led to her nomination for a Spirit of Northern Ireland Award.

Seanín Smith (21), who suffers from Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) has been shortlisted as a finalist in the UTV competition.  Having beaten off stiff competition from hundreds of nominees, Seanín is one of just 15 finalists vying for the award in the final on Friday 30th May.

On Thursday, she travelled to the UTV studios in Belfast, accompanied by her mother Mary, to meet up with her fellow finalists and judges.  And a highlight of the visit was the opportunity to do a bit of reporting alongside newsreader Paul Clarke.

Seanín says she is “totally overwhelmed and very honoured” and, along with her family, extends a huge thank you to everyone who nominated her for the Spirit of Northern Ireland awards.

The final will be held on Friday 30th May and will be broadcast on UTV on Tuesday 3rd June.
