Donnelly meets Minister about Roads’ Issues

May 19, 2014

SDLP Councillor for Slieve Gullion Geraldine Donnelly has met with the Roads Minister Danny Kennedy to discuss the state of roads in the Crossmaglen area.  Commenting after the meeting Mrs Donnelly said,

‘The Minister came out to Crossmaglen and viewed for himself the conditions of some of the roads.  I emphasised to him  the urgent need for upgrading of road surfaces and the many complaints I had from local people who approached me over the past few weeks to highlight the problem on the Dundalk Road and the Castleblayney Road. The Minister  was in agreement with me that work needed to be carried out to the roads he saw.

‘I have to say that I was disappointed and frustrated to hear that the resources are not available to carry out this much needed work.   Assembly colleagues have agreed to push the Minister of Finance to release funds to enable our roads to be brought up to the standard required; the staus quo is simply not acceptable.  I will continue to lobby hard to ensure that this much needed work is progressed as soon as possible.
