Health Minister agrees to meet Crossmaglen Rainbow Club members

May 19, 2014

Stormont Health Minister, Edwin Poots, has accepted an invitation to meet with members of Crossmaglen’s Rainbow Club to discuss the proposed provision of a day facility for people with learning disabilities in the town.

SDLP Slieve Gulllion councillor, Geraldine Donnelly, revealed that the Minister had accepted an invitation from her party following a recent meeting with officials from the Southern Trust.

Commenting, Councillor Donnelly said: “There have been many meetings on this issue down through the years in the locality with health officials and still progress has not reached the point of an announcement being made to provide the resources to bring this much needed facility to reality.  I have always been fully supportive of the project and that is why I, once again, raised it as part of a party delegation which met with senior Trust managers recently.

“Crossmaglen Rainbow Club has provided excellent service to the community over many years and its voluntary efforts should be matched by adequate investment by the Department of Health in a new Day Facility.

“Along with my colleague, Dominic Bradley MLA, I have  asked the Minister of Health to come to Crossmaglen to meet elected representatives and local groups to discuss how the Department intends to advance the project.  I am pleased that he has accepted our invitation and will meet the group and local public representatives in the near future,” she added.
