Elderly couple left shaken after burglary

Elderly An elderly Cloughoge couple have been left shaken after they were robbed by two men who forced their way into their Newtown Road home on Saturday night.

The couple were in bed when they were disturbed by a noise around midnight on Saturday.  The intruders forced open the bedroom door and entered the room, one of them brandishing an iron bar while the other carried a torch.  The pair threatened the pensioners and demanded money before making off with a handbag containing a sum of cash.

One of the men is described as being approximately 25-30 year old, around 5′ 8″ tall, of slim build with fair hair cut short but not shaven and spoke with a local Newry accent. The second man was slightly smaller and of heavier build, with fair hair and a fair complexion.

The couple were not injured during their ordeal but have been left badly shaken.

Detectives investigating have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information to contact CID at Ardmore Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.
