Camlough ABC boxer, Fearghus Quinn will travel to Croatia next month as part of a nine-strong Irish team to compete at the Youth European Games, after his place was confirmed by the Irish Amateur Boxing Association  (IABA) recently.

Fearghus is naturally delighted at his selection and has expressed hopes that he will return with a medal.

Ahead of the Games, Fearghus travelled to Philadelphia last weekend with the Holy Family boxing club in Belfast as part of its annual USA trip.  Having been invited along by the club’s senior coach, Gerry Storey, the trip is a wonderful experience for Fearghus, as Storey previously coached Paddy Barnes, Carl Frampton and Barry McGuigan, as well as currently training Michaela Walsh, a silver medalist in the recent Commonwealth Games.

On his return from the US, he will box for Ireland against Germany in the Whiterock Leisure Centre, Belfast on Saturday 13th September.

His coach, Martin McCusker, forsees a promising future for the young Belleek boxer: “In the past couple of years Fearghus has gone from strength to strength with the level of fitness he has,” he said.
