Hats off to Mairéad as she scoops Ladies’ Day Best Dressed prize

November 3, 2014

Local milliner Mairead Traynor was celebrating this weekend after being named Ladies’ Day Best Dressed at the Down Royal races on Saturday.

The stylish Silverbridge woman came in head and shoulders above the rest of her glamorous competitors, topping off her stylish outfit with a stunning headpiece she created herself especially for the occasion.

Mairead is well known throughout the district for her beautiful headpieces, individually created in her “Millinery by Mairead” studio in Silverbridge.

Judge and sponsor, international interior designer Kris Turnbull said Mairead “took the judging panel’s breath away with her timeless elegance and fashion edginess”.

“Chic, modern and edgy but at the same time elegant and classic – her outfit sums up the very ethos of the NI Festival of Racing,” he said.

Speaking to The Examiner after her success, an excited Mairead said she was “absolutely thrilled” to have won the title and to have the opportunity to showcase her millinery talents.

The win is essentially a two-in-a-row achievement for Mairead as she also created the headpiece worn by last year’s Down Royal Ladies Day winner.

Mairead told us how there were some last minute changes to her final ensemble due to the inclement weather conditions on Saturday.

“I actually had a completely different outfit chosen for Saturday but, with the torrential rain we had on Friday and more predicted for Saturday, I had to put together something entirely different to brave the weather.

“I started to make the headpiece to accompany the outfit on Friday and finished it off Saturday morning before I set off.  I can’t believe I won and got such fantastic comments from the judges.”

Her prize is a dream holiday to Monaco, including flights, luxury accommodation and helicopter transfers, which she says she can’t wait to enjoy with her husband in the new year.

The best-dressed win is a much-deserved accolade for the mum-of-three who has worked tirelessly in building up her millinery business over the last five years.

At her studio, Mairead creates bespoke headpieces to hire or buy for brides-to-be, bridal parties and special occasions and has a huge range of choices to suit all budgets.

Brides-to-be can take advantage of a private consultation with Mairead where she will help to design the perfect accessories to compliment the wedding dress and hairstyle as well as beautiful accessories for bridesmaids, flower girls and mother of the bride.

With the racing scene becoming ever more popular, Mairead regularly produces cutting edge hats and headpieces for ladies attending Ascot, Cheltenham and Aintree as well as the key race meetings in the Northern Irish calendar.

Her work has been featured in a number of well known local publications such as the Ulster Tatler and IN! Magazine and she also enjoyed TV success with some of her eye-catching creations featuring in ads for Down Royal Ladies Day and TV3 Ireland AM fashion slot.

With her own Ladies Day success topping off her fantastic achievements to date, Millinery by Mairead is certainly set to go from strength to strength.
