Ring of Gullion Comhaltas

Ring of  Gullion Comhaltas held their 39th Annual General Meeting on Monday October 20th in The Welcome Inn, Forkhill.

* Secretary Marian Mullan read the minutes of  last year’s A.G.M

*Outgoing  Chairman Eddie Mullan welcomed everyone and thanked the committee for helping him during his term of office.  He thanked the musicians, tutors, parents and children and The Welcome Inn for the use of their premises. He said it was wonderful that 40 years ago people had the vision to start the Comhaltas in the area and he thanked them sincerely  for tapping in to the talent  already there and developing it further ie music, singing, story telling and dancing.  He felt it could only get better as there is plenty of talent in the area and great  tutors to bring it to a higher level.  Some of those people  who were present at  the Inaugural meeting namely Francie Kelly, Maura O’Neill and Michael Quinn were present at this the 39th meeting. Thanks to all.  The Treasurer Bridie Hickey presented the financial statement .

*P.R.O Mary Mc Donald gave a brief review of her work and thanked Marian for all her help and support.

*President Michael Quinn thanked all and said he felt the music was in good hands.

*Election of Officers was conducted by John  Gollogly.

*New Chairperson Bridie thanked all  for taking posts and  some matters  were discussed eg Christmas Dinner date , Launch of Henry Mc Donald’s CD on November 11th in Welcome Inn.

As next year is our 40th year a few  ideas were floated to be discussed at next meeting on Wednesday 5th  November

*Sympathy  was  passed to Jim Flynn,  former  Comhaltas member, on the death of his brother Matt also to Elaine O’Sullivan Tutor on the death of her father Jim and to the Murphy family on the death of Brian, former  Comhaltas member. May they all rest in peace.

* Elaine O’Sullivan spoke from the floor and thanked Ring Of Gullion for their help and support in the past and especially  with the recent concert with children and tutors from different communities.

*Everyone enjoyed a delicious supper organised by Marian and supplied by Bernie’s Kitchen.
