Tasty start to the New Year

November 17, 2014

While we wait for confirmation of possible inter-county activity pre-Christmas in the O Fiaich Cup our appetite might be satisfied over the festive season but it will not be long into the New Year when our football appetite will be whetted now that the fixture list for the 2015 Bank of Ireland Dr. McKenna Cup have been released.

First up for Armagh on Sunday Jan 4 at 2pm is an Athletic Grounds meeting with Tyrone who are seeking their fourth successive win in the competition. The 2014 championship victory for Armagh over Tyrone signalled a renaissance in the Orchard County fortunes. The Armagh revival can be gauged by the fact that although they will be plying their trade in Division Three of the National Football League they are ahead of Tyrone in the 2015 All-Ireland and Ulster championship betting.

Paired with Tyrone, Antrim and St Mary’s in Group C for the 2015 Bank of Ireland Dr. McKenna Cup Armagh are looking for their first win in the competition since 1990. The opening game could be the key to advancement in the competition which sees Armagh away to Antrim and at home to St Mary’s.

New Down manager Jim McCorry will start 2015 with a home game with Cavan in the Bank of Ireland Dr. McKenna Cup. Next up for Down is a trip to Clones to take on Monaghan with their Group A programme completed with a home fixture with UUJ.
