DARD assistance sought to progress Forkhill barracks development

December 8, 2014

The Assembly’s Agriculture Minister has been asked to assist in progressing the regeneration of the former military barracks site in Forkhill, Sinn Fein MLA Megan Fearon, has said.

Ms Fearon says the Forkhill and District Development Association (FADDA) is already working with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) and recently met to discuss development plans for the site in the centre of the village.

“FADDA are currently working with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to regenerate this important site for the benefit of the local community.  Their plans involve the development of community and leisure facilities, including a creche, a 3g pitch as well as business units to help grow the local economy,” Ms Fearon revealed.

Adding that she has written to Minister Michelle O’Neill seeking her department’s assistance in progressing the project to the next stage, she added: “I recognise the commitment the Minister and her department have already demonstrated to this project. They have recognised the importance of this regeneration to the local community, and look forward to working with them to progress this project.”
