Take the Rocky Road Challenge in Dromintee!

March 2, 2015

Dromintee GAC Juvenile committee is seeking volunteers to take part in the unique ‘Rocky Road Challenge’, in memory of club stalwart, Oweny Rocks, whose passed away a year ago this month.

Oweny was a member of the club’s Executive committee, a true gentlemen, a hard and committed worker for Dromintee GAC.  He took on responsibility for a lot of jobs that often went unnoticed – he was our gate man; the main contact for members to gain access to club at all times; the ‘bodyguard’ for opening and closing the bar; no job was too small or big for him.  With his passing, Dromintee lost a true legend and Gael.

The Rocky Road Challenge will be an annual event and fittingly in aid of juvenile development within the club.

The challenge comprises of three events: 10k team club challenge, 10k Run, 5k family walk/run.

The race event will get underway at 12.30pm on Sunday 29th March with the walk commencing at 12.45pm.

This event is fully licensed by Athletics NI and will be of a certified distance and timed by ChampionChip Ireland.

The Team Challenge requires teams of 6 to take part in the 10k.  The times of all six participants will be combined and the winner will be the fastest team home.

All clubs are encouraged to take part so get your teammates together as the prize money is £200 for your club.

So who is the fittest GAA club in Armagh and Ulster? The football and hurling league starts in April, Championship in May, so this is an excellent way of testing just how fit you really are!

Savour some of the fine views of Slieve Gullion and the surrounding area as you make your way around the route which begins at Dromintee GAC, proceeding along the Adavoyle Road and up towards Slieve Gullion before returning to the club.
