“Tea in a China Cup” by Christina Reid – Lislea Dramatic Players

April 27, 2015

Lynore King wins All Ireland Best Actress Accolade !

Lislea Dramatic Players competed once again in the All Ireland Confined Drama Finals in Kilmuckridge, Co. Wexford on Monday 13th April after winning 3 festivals (Portadown, South Wicklow and Mid Ulster) and picking up numerous individual awards along the way with their play “Tea in a China Cup” by Christina Reid.

Unfortunately, 2015 was not to be their year despite the adjudicator, Mr. Patrick Sutton having thoroughly enjoyed the play. He described Lynore King’s performance as being “epic” and as such awarded her the highest award possible, Best Actress in the All-Ireland Confined Finals. The success of this play is the result of hard work and dedication not only from the producer, Mr. John Campbell but all those on stage and those behind the scenes working on the set, lighting and stage management. It must be noted that Cathal Murphy and the stage management team were nominated for an award also. The Lislea Dramatic Players would like to congratulate Kilrush Drama Group, Co. Wexford on winning the All-Ireland with their production of “Poor Beast in the Rain” by Billy Roche and will be sorry to lose them as they will now be competing in the Open section.

Lislea Dramatic Players are delighted to announce that they will play two more dates in the Old School House Theatre, in Lislea on Sunday 3rd May and Monday 4th May at 8pm. “Tea in a China Cup” is a portrayal of life’s recurring similarities amidst modern changes, experienced by three generations of women from a working-class, Belfast Protestant family, living through decades of social and political conflict. This tapestry of tales is linked by the central character Beth, who struggles with the strong influence of deep set traditions and the great importance attached to the heirlooms of respectability. A poignant, comic-tragic history of endearing characters. Prepare to laugh and then shed a tear.

Come early to avoid disappointment as there are no tickets on sale or reserved seating. See press for further details. Please follow us on Twitter @LisleaDramaFest and find us on Facebook
