Entire herd stolen in Crossmaglen cattle raid

March 31, 2009

A Crossmaglen farming family has been left shocked and distressed at the disappearance of almost thirty cows from their farm early last week.

Sometime between Saturday evening 21st and Monday 23rd March, twenty-nine bullocks went missing from a field on the Corliss Road, about a mile outside the town.

Initially believing the animals may have strayed from the farm, the owners spent all week searching for them over a wide area.  However, as time has progressed without any sign of their whereabouts, they now believe the missing herd has been stolen.

Worth several thousand pounds, the cattle are all individually tagged and would be immediately identifiable by their owner.  They had been put to graze in the field just a few days earlier.

To facilitate the movement of so many animals, it is believed a lorry may have been used in the raid and the owners have appealed for anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual to contact them on 028 30868396.

The police are also keen to acquire information on the theft and ask that anyone who was in the area and witnessed the cattle being taken or anyone who has information in relation to this to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
