Cullyhanna girls fall at final hurdle

Six teams from an original entry of 53 remai-ned to have the cha-nce of becoming county champions Tannaghmore, St.Mary’s, Mullaghbawn and Armagh C.B.S. were drawn together in Section A.  St.Francis, Lurgan, St.Patrick’s, Cullyhanna and Foley were in opposition in Section B.

Tannaghmore defeated Mullaghbawn and Armagh C.B.S. to qualify for the Semi Finals.  St.Mary’s, Mullaghbawn had 3 points to spare over the C.B.S. girls to finish runners up in their section.

St.Patrick’s, Cullyhanna defeated Foley and St.Francis, Lurgan to win Section B, St.Francis defeated Foley to claim the runners up position.

The Semi Final pairings were Mullaghbawn v Cullyhanna and Tannaghmore v St.Francis, St.Patrick’s, Cullyhanna had 3 points to spare over St.Mary’s.  In the all Lurgan Semi Final.

Tannaghmore edged out their neighbours St.Francis by a single point.

Tannaghmore were first to settle in the final and raced into a 3 point lead.  St.Patrick’s reduced the lead with their first score, a point.  Tannaghmore forwards wasted no time in restoring their lead and three unanswered points left the Cullyhanna girls with a mountain to climb.

Two excellent points from the South Armagh side left 3 points between the sides.  A wonderful save from the Tannaghmore goalkeeper made sure the title would go to Lurgan as St.Patrick’s were unable to break through a well drilled Tannaghmore defence for a second time. Final score Tannaghmore 0-6 St.Patrick’s, Cullyhanna 0-3.
