A man was arrested in Newry on Friday in relation to fraud offences linked to the discovery of a haul of suspected illegally bottled drinks.

The 54-year-old was detained by detectives from the PSNI’s Reactive and Organised Crime branch following an operation between police, the Food Standards Agency and the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, which led to the seizure of a large consignment of bottled drinks.

The haul was located in two 40ft trailers, uncovered during searches of premises in Derrybeg Lane.

The man was questioned on suspicion of possession of articles to commit fraud, making or supplying articles to commit fraud and offences under the waste and contaminated land act.

He was later released on bail pending further enquiries.
