Forkhill man charged after £1m Dublin Port cocaine find

September 21, 2015

A 37 year old truck driver from Forkhill has been charged with drug offences following the seizure of a 1 million euro haul of cocaine at Dublin Port on Saturday 12th September.

About 15 kilos of the drug was seized from a haulage vehicle that had travelled to Dublin Port from the UK. The drugs are estimated to be worth just over 1m euros (£733,000).

Maurice McCreesh of Main Street, Forkhill, was arrested and charged with possessing drugs with intent to supply. He appeared at Dublin District Court last Monday, where a detective told the court that the accused had made no reply after he was charged. Objecting to bail, the detective cited the seriousness of the offence.

Mr McCreesh’s defence solicitor asked the court to grant bail adding that he has two children living in the Republic of Ireland, has ties to the jurisdiction and was able to provide an address there.

The court also heard the lorry driver has lost his job as a result of the charges.

The Forkhill man was remanded in custody with consent to bail under a number of bail conditions and appeared in court again on Friday last. .
