Car ‘crashed and abandoned’ on busy south Armagh road

April 4, 2016

Police have condemned the driver of a car found crashed and abandoned on a busy south Armagh road in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Officers discovered the crashed vehicle on its roof partially blocking the Dundalk Road after being alerted to the incident by a member of the public.

In a Facebook post, PSNI Newry and Mourne branded the decision to abandon the car on the busy road in foggy conditions as “madness” and warned that the culprit would face the  “full rigours of the court system.”

“What is most shocking of all however is, that not one single person was found at the scene,” said police.

“This forces police to carry out exhaustive searches of nearby roads, fields and houses for any potentially injured parties. This scene also unfolded during a period of very heavy fog, with vision reduced to around 30 feet. Can you imagine the carnage if another vehicle had suddenly entered the crash site?

“It’s terrifying to think what may have occurred. Our message is simple, wise up on the roads.”

“Be under no illusions, if we catch you, you will face the full rigours of the court system.”
