Four arrested and suspected firearm seized

Two men aged 23 and 24 and two women aged 19 and 29 have been arrested for a number of offences after a suspected firearm was seized from a car on the Flagstaff Road in Newry.

Police received a report on Saturday evening (April 2) around 7pm that a number of individuals in a blue car were behaving suspiciously at Brogies Road, Newry.

Police attended the area and noted a vehicle which matched the description received, at Flagstaff Road.

A bag was located near the car containing a suspected firearm and a number of other items.

The men and women were arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including carrying a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence, going equipped for burglary and possessing an article with a blade or point.

All four have since been released on bail pending further police enquiries.
