Special fundraising night set to celebrate the life of Niall Quinn

July 11, 2016

The family and friends of the late Niall Quinn are hosting a very special night in his memory this weekend, with all proceeds donated to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.

The tragic Silverbridge man was killed in a boat accident in Australia in January.  The 25 year old carpenter died when he fell from a houseboat he had hired with a group of friends for a long spa weekend. Tragedy struck when Niall slipped and fell from the top deck of the vessel, hitting his head before he entered the water and drowned.

The death of the hugely popular local man, remembered as the “life and soul of the party”, numbed the local community, where Niall and his family are very well-known and respected, and sent shockwaves through his huge circle of friends at home and in Australia.

In the wake of the tragedy, various fundraising campaigns were set up in Niall’s memory raising thousands for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust which was instrumental in bringing Niall home to his heartbroken family.  Such was the esteem in which Niall was held that one such charitable campaign, a GoFundMe page set up by his boss in Australia, raised over £50,000 for the KBRT in just 3 weeks.

Ahead of this Saturday’s fundraising night, The Examiner spoke to Niall’s sister-in-law Lauren, who has helped to organise the event along with his family.

She told us the night is a personal tribute to Niall from his family and friends to celebrate his life and thank the local community for their unfailing support for the Quinn family in the wake of their terrible loss.

“There has already been a phenomenal amount of money raised in Niall’s memory and his family wanted to organise their own personal tribute to him and to recognise the support they have had from everyone,” said Lauren.

“It promises to be a fun-filled night in true Niall style with prizes on the night and raffles for secret boxes as well as an auction with some fantastic items to be bid for.”

Her hugely popular brother-in-law was Best Man at Lauren’s wedding and she says that, although the family’s loss is still “very raw”, they have been overwhelmed by the support of their community and Niall’s many friends who have rallied to support them any way they can.

“We want to bring everyone together to remember Niall and to recognise the support the family received after his death and continue to receive months later,” said Lauren.

“Niall was a fantastic character who was loved by everyone he met.  He  always had a story to tell and his loss has left a huge void in the lives of his family and friends.

“We invite everyone to come along to the Quinn family’s tribute to Niall this Saturday (16th July) in the Silverbridge Resource Centre and to remember him in an event that befits his larger-than-life character.”

The Fundraising Night begins at 8pm with entertainment provided by Limelite and Raglan. Tickets cost £10.
