Final fundraising events for Séanín as she begins the long journey home

September 5, 2016

As Belleek woman Séanín Smith begins the daunting two week journey home from America today (Monday 5th September), her family and friends continue with their dedicated fundraising to pay for  expensive medical treatment for the 24 year old in her battle against the devastating effects of the debilitating condition Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS).

Séanín has spent the summer in Maryland USA where she has undergone three major  spinal surgeries, all performed by world renowned neurosurgeon Professor Fraser Henderson.  The inspirational young woman is still recovering from the lifesaving operations and followers of her fight against the cruel disease which affects the skin, joints and muscles causing frequent strokes and seizures, have been immeasurably moved by her determination in the face of such adversity.

Having been deemed by doctors to be too unwell to fly, Séanín made the gruelling journey to America in June via boat. Today, she embarks on the long journey home, finally returning to her native Belleek on Saturday 17th September.

As her devoted sister Louise nervously awaits her return, she extends her heartfelt thanks to everyone who has sent messages of support and prayed for Séanín and her family during her very difficult three months away from home.  Louise is also keen to remind everyone of this month’s final events in aid of the Fight On Campaign for Séanín.

First up is a very special one-off  night organised by the fabulous Sugartown Road Band.  “Six In One Night” takes place on Saturday 10th September at The Canal Court Hotel Newry and promises to be a fantastic night of dancing and craic which will benefit six very worthy local causes – The Fight On Campaign, The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, Southern Area Hospice, Autism Families, PIPS and The Eamonn Morgan Trust.

Tickets are priced at only £10 and are available from any of these charities’ members.  Locally tickets are also available at Tully’s Vivo Shop Belleek and Clarke’s Chemist Newtownhamilton.

On Friday 23rd September, The Fight On Campaign will host its last event – a special Variety Concert for Seanin –  in Newry Town Hall.   A wonderful display of local young talent will be on show on the night with the fabulous folk band, Raglan, opening up the show and Stephen Mc Nulty as compere.

The audience will be treated to the All-Ireland winning performances of Aine Malone from Whitecross with the O’Malley Rooney School of Irish Dancing, Crossmaglen girls Alannah & Shaunna Murray from the Mona Ruddy School of Irish Dancing, Belleek’s Claire O’Callaghan and the Mc Enteggart Irish Dance Troupe as well as All-Ireland Junior Scor winners – the Cullyhanna Novelty Act.

In addition, two brilliant solo singers – Cailiosa Ni Dhuill from Whitecross and Stephen Murphy from Forkhill will be performing along with the sensational TK Mascots and the wonderful Newry Stage School featuring Kayleen Farrell and Conor McCabe from Belleek.

Finally, the fantastic “Fight On Kids” – a newly formed group of children from Belleek, Whitecross, Dorsey, Newtownhamilton and Cullyhanna – are set to put on a terrific performance under the guidance of the talented Tracey Kelly from Belleek.

The group comprises of several of Seanin’s young cousins, who wanted to do something for their beloved cousin.

Everyone is encouraged to come along and show their support for this fantastic line-up which marks the last event in the Fight On Campaign. Admission is strictly ticket only.  Tickets cost £10 each and are available from Tully’s Vivo Shop, Belleek, Clarke’s Chemist, Newtown, Newry Town Hall and any committee member or via The Fight On Campaign Facebook page. Curtain up for the Variety Concert is 7pm sharp.
