Rubbish dumping remains serious problem
April 28, 2009
Serious dumping and rubbish thrown along the side of the roads in parts of south Armagh remains an ongoing problem despite attempts to highlight the issue and have it resolved.
Noelle McGarvey, SDLP spokesperson in the Newtownhamilton area, pointed to dumping on the Armagh side of the town and said that the culture of doing this needed to be challenged.
She also pointed to rubbish being strewn on the Newry to Newtown road and said that despite numerous meetings, the problem remains.
“ I have attended every meeting on this in recent times and would ask again that people be aware of the effects of this on their environment. Some people are rightly complaining about the blatant dumping of old beds, armchairs and even vehicles along roadsides in parts of the locality”.
Mrs McGarvey said that if a pick-up was organised, she would readily take part in it.
