Final push for Happy Faces Christmas gift appeal

December 19, 2016

After a hugely successful gift appeal last Christmas, the team at Happy Faces Day Care in Silverbridge have once again been running their Christmas gift appeal, this year in conjunction with Women’s Aid Newry and Armagh and the Newry Helping The Homeless organisation.

So far the generosity of the local community has been outstanding with over 100 gifts received, and proprietor Fiona Campbell is hoping that with the appeal now its final days, a last push for donations will see last year’s total of 300 gifts exceeded.

Speaking to The Examiner about the festive charity drive, Fiona explained,

“Women’s aid currently have 140 children and mothers within their service in Newry and Armagh –  a large number for a very small area. Most of these people need help and support, especially at Christmas time so we decided to run our Christmas gift appeal again for these families, as well as for the Newry Helping the Homeless group.”

During the appeal the Happy Faces Christmas tree and a number of paper trees created by the nursery children are adorned with tags and tokens detailing the age and gender of the gift recipient. Tags are also available for the mums involved with Women’s Aid and parents in the homeless group.

The nursery team are asking as many people as possible to take a card from the trees and purchase a gift for their selected child or adult, which they can then return to Happy Faces.

“The Newry Helping The Homeless group are particularly in need of children’s gifts, especially some toys to distribute at their Christmas Day dinner for the homeless,” said Fiona, urging anyone who has not already taken part in this wonderful festive initiative to contact them before the final day on Wednesday.

“We really need lots of help with the last few days of our appeal and would stress that you don’t have to work or attend Happy Faces to take part,” she added.

“If you can’t get in to collect a tag or token we can send you information or you can contact us via the Happy Faces Facebook page or via email and the team will choose a tag and send you the details.

“Happy Faces would like to thank everyone in advance and all who have donated so far and hope this appeal will be even more successful than last year’s.”
