The young man who was seriously injured in an accident in Crossmaglen in the early hours of Monday 27th December is said to be “out of danger” and making a slow recovery.

Conall McCavitt (21) was struck by a car after spending St. Stephen’s Night socializing with friends.  He sustained serious injuries and had been in an induced coma for a number of weeks as medical staff fought to save his life.  He has undergone a number of surgeries the most recent of which was last weekend.  A world champion handball player, Conall received get well wishes from across the globe and on Friday, the official GAA Handball Ireland posted an update of his condition on its Facebook page.

Reporting that Conall “is now out of danger”, the post stated his recent operation “appears to be a success” although he remains “still very ill”.

Paying tribute to his strength of character and resilience, the message concluded: “Conall has always carried himself in a respectful manner on the Handball court, so it is no surprise to hear his ward manager speak of his manners, respect and determination shown throughout his tough recovery.  Everyone involved in GAA Handball circles is delighted for you Conall!”
