Teenage girl treated in hospital after hit and run

February 6, 2017

Police are appealing for witnesses following a hit and run road traffic collision on the Green Road in Camlough last Thursday evening, which left a teenage girl requiring hospital treatment for minor injuries.

The teenager was crossing the road from the side exit of Dan Gregory’s filling station around 7pm on Thursday last when she was struck by a dark coloured car. The car did not stop following the collision.

According to the girl’s concerned mother – who took to social media after the incident to appeal for witnesses – her daughter was hit by a lady driver accompanied by a male passenger in a small, dark coloured vehicle.

Despite the driver slamming on the brakes, her daughter was struck by the car and, “banged on the bonnet as she felt the car was still moving.”

Worried mum, Bernie Goodwill, added that she was “unsure yet to the reason the driver never got out to check my child was ok” or as to why she drove away from the scene and she appealed for anyone with information to contact herself or the police.

Police have asked for anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to contact officers in Newry on non-emergency number 101 quoting reference number 1125 of 02/02/17.
