Drug charges follow sudden death of woman

A man has been charged with a number of drug offences relating to the sudden death of a woman in Bessbrook.

The woman, who it’s believed is aged in her 30s, died at a house in Orior Park on Tuesday last, 21st February.

Detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime, Newry arrested a 48-year-old man on Thursday in connection with the death. A total of £2,000 in cash was seized and a number of items taken away for examination during a related search of the property.  The man was later charged with being concerned in the supply of a Class A controlled drug and possession of a Class B controlled drug and is expected to appear before Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 22nd March.

Sinn Fein’s Conor Murphy extended sympathy to the deceased’s family.

“It is tragic to learn that a young woman has lost her life. Her family are in deep shock and they are in our thoughts at this moment as they come to terms with this sudden death.

“Police are investigating the circumstances and anyone who feels they can help with the investigation should contact the PSNI immediately,” he said.
