Forkhill couple running London marathon for Children’s Cancer Charity
April 10, 2017
Husband and wife team, Stephen and Denise McCabe will be running the 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon on 23rd April and raising funds for the charity CLIC Sargent - Cancer and Leukaemia In Children.
Both runners are members of SGR (Slieve Gullion Runners) which is an amateur running club founded three years ago. It was the owner Graeme Finnegan of Grounded Espresso Bar Newry, the club’s sponsor that drew Denise’s name out on 20th November that gave her the guaranteed club entry place.
To run the London marathon would be the couple’s ultimate achievement as Denise has little sight in her right eye and is thus vulnerable when running especially in crowds as she has little spacial awareness. At 5yrs old Denise was diagnosed with a rare form of muscle wasting cancer , therefore CLIC was the natural choice of charity for them to choose when they signed up for the London Marathon back in November.
Although this is Denise’s first marathon it will be Stephen’s 5th, the training is still tough and requires a lot of hard work and commitment. Anyone who lives around the Forkhill/Mullaghbawn area will have seen the couple running the roads every week building up the training miles.
The London marathon is one of the iconic races that most runners have on their bucket list. They feel privileged to be able to run this together and help to make a difference. Stephen has a justgiving page which is set up through the Virgin Money London Marathon website and it is through this that donations can be made.
Thank you for supporting CLIC Sargent and joining with us to fight for young lives against cancer.
