O’Gorman brothers excel
April 18, 2017
Last weekend was yet again a very successful one for the O’Gorman household, Mullaghbawn as brothers Shane and Rory brought further boxing glory to the house.
First into action was Shane, at the National Stadium, Dublin in the 54 kg category where after a tough contest with Dublin’s Martin Stokes he successfully retained his All-Ireland title for the third time.
On Sunday night at the Waterside in Derry, a TKO in the first round gave Rory the Ulster title at 48kg against home fighter Ewan White. Rory will be hoping that he can follow in his brothers footsteps as he contests the All-Ireland National School Boy championships in Dublin on Wednesday where he will be up against James McDonagh from St Paul’s, Wexford.
Shane and Rory accredit their victories to the hard work, dedication and coaching that they have received from their St Malachy’s, Camlough coaches Marty Mulholland and Tommy Shields whose tireless pursuit for excellence has been rewarded not alone by the success of the O Gorman brothers but also that of Jamie Lee Ward, Michael Maughan and Andrew Ward who have also claimed Ulster titles and will also be boxing in the nationals this coming week. Andrew will face David Morgan (Drimnagh) with Michael facing Dylan Eagleson (B Abbey BA).
Best wishes to all the local boxers who will be in action at the Nationals this week.
