Police probe masked man attack in Bessbrook

Local police are appealing for witnesses after a man in his sixties was left with facial injuries when he was attacked by a masked man in the Charlemont Square East area of Bessbrook.  The assault happened just before 11pm on Wednesday last (19 April.)

Speaking to The Examiner, Sergeant Thomas Shields said the victim was reported to be carrying a child’s carrycot containing a number of items from a house and was placing them into his car when he was approached by a male wearing a balaclava.

“The male spoke to him before assaulting him and making off with the carrycot and its contents. The victim is believed to have suffered facial injuries,” added Sergeant Shields.

The assailant is described as being around 5’ 6” in height, of heavy build and having a local accent.

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area on Wednesday night to get in touch with on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1373 of 19/4/17.
