Superbites scoops ‘Good Chippy’ award

May 22, 2017

Crossmaglen’s hugely popular fish and chip shop, Superbites, has been handed another top accolade, this time scooping the “Good Chippy Award” to become one of 365 winners out of over 10,000 chippies throughout the UK.

The Good Food Award for Fish & Chip Shops, branded as the Good Chippy Awards, was launched in 2016.  With 10,500 registered UK Fish and Chip Shops throughout the United Kingdom, competition is tough and only the best are selected for the coveted title.  The awards are by invitation only and each year Fish and Chip shops are hand picked to join the prestigious awards programme which is recognised as the “blue ribbon for fantastic Fish and Chips”.

The unique awards programme, designed specifically for the Fish and Chip industry, uses thousands of food reviews and compiles feedback on each shop to devise a score and a league table by category is created with the top scoring premises invited to appear in the awards programme.  Over the last twelve months customer feedback for Superbites has been examined and the premises were shown to have demonstrated “exceptional levels of food quality, service and value when compared to industry benchmarks in their category.”

The successful local takeaway restaurant is no stranger to accolades, with a string of prestigious titles under its belt. Last year, Superbites joined the Fish and Chip Shop elite from across the UK, when it was announced as the top Fish and Chip Shop out of counties Antrim, Down and Armagh, as part of the 2016 National Fish & Chip Awards, organised by Seafish.  The coveted achievement propelled the local takeaway to one of the top two best fish and chip shops in Northern Ireland and one of the top 21 in the UK.

Superbites restaurant, with its hot and cold deli counters, takeaway and catering service, has long been a favourite among local people and proprietor Gerard McMonagle has always extended his thanks to his dedicated staff and to his loyal customer base and local community for their support over the years.

A man who gives back to his community time and again, Superbites is heavily involved with local charities and fundraising as well as proudly sponsoring numerous local events and GAA clubs.

Gerard has high praise for his dedicated Superbites staff, commending them for all their hard work and effort.

Speaking to The Examiner about the latest award for the renowned eatery, the delighted owner said,

“We’re over the moon to have received this award; it’s an honour to be recognised on the strength of our customer feedback and very important for us to know we are doing a good job in terms of service and top quality food.

“None of the awards and accolades Superbites has received over the years would be possible without the hard work of the staff here and I am very grateful for their continued support and dedication.”
