Mulkerns Eurospar butchers scoop string of industry awards

Management and staff of local supermarket Mulkern’s EUROSPAR are celebrating having scooped a string of prestigious awards at the recent All-Ireland BBQ Championships. Presented by Butchers Excellence International, these awards are open to all independent butchers across Ireland and highlight the quality produce provided by butchers ahead of the busy summer barbecue season.

Mulkern’s EUROSPAR swept the boards, winning a total of 23 awards at the event which was held in the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan on Monday last.

The judging panel featured experts in the industry comprising of Master Butcher Dave Lang, accredited cookery judge Dolan Heaney and chief judge, Sean Owens, the Culinary Director of Montgomery Food Consulting.

Mr Owens said Mulkerns’ butchers “excelled in their category, showing immense proficiency in butchery excellence”.

Expressing delight, store manager Thomas Magennis said: “Ithas been an absolute privilege to take part in such a sought-after competition in the industry, in a field heavily contested with some of the best butchers in Ireland.

“We’re delighted to receive these prestigious awards.  It’s a testament to the hard work of the entire Butchery and Deli team, without their passion and dedication none of this is possible.

“Our recent re-development has given the community a whole new and improved offering and we’d like to thank our all our customers for their support,” he added.

Rhonda Montgomery (Chief executive of Montgomery Food Consulting and Founder of the Butcher Excellence International) said the competition had been an amazing success, attracting over 200 entries from across Ireland, showcasing some of Ireland finest butchery innovation.

Butchery Excellence International will create, support and validate an inter collaborative community of butchers across the island of Ireland who have a food sourcing and retailing support scheme that is based on unparalleled expertise, recognised training and auditing with true business integrity.  The organisation will encourage and harvest support for the local butcher in Ireland through marketing initiatives both regional, national and international.
